Alhasil, mata kanan Thareq Kemal Habibie pun mengalami kerusakan di bagian retina.
Hal tersebut diakibatkan akibat adanya tekanan pada retina mata Thareq Kemal Habibie yang membuatnya rusak.
“Saya ini menderita diabetes. Tapi lucunya diabetes saya hilang. Cuma bayarannya gini. Karena diabetes, orang bisa kena penyakit glaukoma. Glukoma itu mengakibatkan tekanan di dalam mata tinggi. Sekarang tekanan mata saya sekitar 25,” jelas Thareq Kemal Habibie.
Sambil tersenyum ramah, Thareq Kemal Habibie pun menjelaskan dengan lugas soal tekanan yang ada di matanya.
Thareq Kemal Habibie mengungkap bahwa dirinya tidak bisa menangkap cahaya yang masuk ke mata kanannya tersebut akibat penyakit glaukoma.
“Akibat tekanan yang ada di dalam, retinanya kegencet sehingga pecah, rusak. Retina itu adalah layar di belakang mata yang menerima cahaya,” ungkap Thareq Kemal Habibie.
Untuk lebih jelas, Thareq Kemal Habibie pun membuka penutup matanya di depan khalayak.
Thareq Kemal Habibie pun menunjukkan kondisi matanya yang terlihat normal seperti tidak memiliki gangguan.
Namun yang Thareq Kemal Habibie justru sebaliknya. Ketika melihat cahaya, Thareq Kemal Habibie mengaku pandangannya langsung buram.
“Ini saya buka mata ya supaya kalian lihat. Mata saya tidak abu-abu tidak kenapa-kenapa kan ? Cuma kalau disinari, saya tidak melihat cahayanya,” pungkas Thareq Kemal Habibie.

Karenanya, Thareq Kemal Habibie pun memilih untuk menutup mata kanannya.
Hal tersebut untuk melatih otaknya bahwa dirinya hanya bisa melihat jelas dengan satu mata saja.
“Dengan sekarang saya begini (mata kanan terbuka tanpa penutup), saya lihatnya buram. Karena otak membiasakan diri bahwa saya bisa lihat dengan dua mata. Dengan mata tertutup saya tiba-tiba jadi tajam. Jeleknya, karena saya tidak bisa lihat tiga dimensi, saya tidak tahu jarak,” jelas Thareq Kemal Habibie.
Viral potret dirinya yang menjadi perbincangan pun tak dipermasalahkan Thareq Kemal Habibie.
Putra bungsu BJ Habibie itu justru senang karena bisa dikenal sebagai sosok Nick Furry Indonesia.

“Lagi pula saya jadi agent Indonesia kan? Nick Furry of Indonesia,” kata Thareq Kemal Habibie sambil tersenyum.
Lebih lanjut, Thareq Kemal Habibie juga mengungkap alasannya memilih untuk memakai penutup kepala dibanding plester.
Menurut Thareq Kemal Habibie, penutup mata adalah benda yang praktis dan tidak menimbulkan efek samping apapun pada bentuk fisik matanya.
“Pilih gini kalau pakai plester kan nanti bulu mata keangkat, nempel kalau pas malam kebuka kan. Kalau begini kan tinggal tarik, tidur,” akui Thareq Kemal Habibie.
Mengenai penyakitnya, Thareq Kemal Habibie mengaku bahwa dirinya harus rutin periksa ke dokter tiap 6 bulan sekali.
Hal itu Thareq Kemal Habibie lakukan guna mencegah penyebaran glaukoma ke mata kirinya.
“Glukoma itu bisa kena dua mata. Jadi setiap setengah tahun saya harus ke dokter mata untuk periksa supaya kiri tidak kena juga,” ujar Thareq Kemal Habibie.
